The Gospel of Mark
What do we do when the wind is against us and we feel like no matter how hard we row, we are not making any progress? In Mark chapter 6, we find the disciples doing exactly what Jesus told them to do, and yet they end up in the middle of a violent storm. This raises one of the most honest questions any of us will ever ask: why does God allow storms in the first place? The answer is both challenging and deeply comforting. Sometimes storms come for our correction, the way a loving father redirects a child who has wandered off course. Other times, storms come for our perfection, driving our spiritual roots deeper the way a hurricane strengthens a palm tree rather than destroying it. The storm is not always a sign that we have missed God. Sometimes it is evidence that we are right in the middle of his plan. This message invites us to stop asking only how to escape the storm and start asking what God is trying to build in us through it. If we are willing to shift that perspective, the storm stops feeling like punishment and starts feeling like preparation.
